Curious about meditation but find it hard to sit in silence?
This gentle session uses the sound Om to help the mind settle and the body relax. When we chant together, everyone’s voice blends into one shared sound in the room, creating a calm, grounding atmosphere.
You don’t need to be able to sing, and there’s no performance aspect at all. You’re welcome whether you’re new to meditation or already have a practice. 🤍
What we’ll do
We’ll begin with a short introduction and a few minutes to settle in.
Then we’ll chant Om together as a group. The chanting is slow and steady, with long slow exhales.
Afterwards, we’ll spend a little time in quiet meditation, followed by an optional sharing circle for anyone who’d like to reflect on the experience.
The whole session runs for around 90 minutes.
Why chanting can be helpful
Many people find chanting easier than silent meditation because the sound gives the mind something simple to focus on.
The long, steady exhales used when chanting can also help calm the nervous system and encourage the body to relax.
Research into chanting practices suggests they may help to:
- reduce stress and anxiety
- improve mood
- support relaxation and focused attention
What to wear and bring
Wear comfortable clothing you can sit and breathe easily in.
No yoga mat or props are required, just bring a water bottle.
